21 years of Bowmore. Aston Martin design. One exceptional 2024 release waiting in the Vault. 🔐🥃🏎️
Bowmore is said to be the oldest working distillery on Islay, and one of the oldest in Scotland. It was established in 1779 by a local merchant, John P. Simson, on the shore of Loch Indaal, and it still sits right at the water's edge. Bowmore is one of the few distilleries in Scotland that still keeps its own traditional floor maltings, and its famous No. 1 Vaults warehouse sits below sea level, where casks mature in cool, salty coastal air.
In 2019 Bowmore began working with Aston Martin, the British luxury car maker. The partnership was led by Bowmore's master blender Ron Welsh and Aston Martin's chief creative officer Marek Reichman, bringing whisky making and car design together.
The partnership's headline series was the Masters' Selection, named after the two masters behind it. It ran to four editions:
Announced in June 2024, Edition 4 closed the Masters' Selection series. It was also one of the last whiskies Ron Welsh made before retiring as Bowmore's master blender, which makes it a fitting end to the story. Marek Reichman said the project had deepened his appreciation of whisky making.
The whisky is a 21 year old Islay single malt, matured in tawny port-seasoned American oak casks and Oloroso sherry butts, and bottled at a powerful 51.4% ABV. It launched at around £425 a bottle.
