Quick answer: UK tech competitions let you win prizes like the latest iPhone, a PS5 or a gaming PC for the price of a small ticket, or for free by post. Pick a draw, check the ticket limit, enter online or by post, and a winner is picked at random when the draw closes. See Highland Vault’s live tech competitions, with free postal entry on every draw.
New tech is expensive. A flagship phone, a new console or a proper gaming PC can cost hundreds or thousands of pounds, and the newest launches often sell out in the first week. Tech competitions offer another way to get them: a small ticket price for a chance at the whole prize.

Tech prizes you can win in the UK
iPhones and Apple tech
The newest iPhone is one of the most popular competition prizes in the UK, often with extras like AirPods or an Apple Watch as instant wins. Check the exact model and storage size before you enter. “Latest iPhone” should mean the current flagship, new and sealed. Our guide to how to win an iPhone covers the details.
PS5 and gaming consoles
Console draws often bundle the hardware with a big new game, an extra controller or a headset. Check which version you’re playing for, such as a standard PS5 or a PS5 Pro, and whether the bundle includes games.
Gaming PCs
Gaming PC competitions can offer some of the biggest tech prizes, because a high-end build can cost thousands. Look for a full spec list: graphics card, processor, memory and storage. “Gaming PC” alone tells you very little.
Other tech worth entering for
You’ll also see smart TVs, laptops, tablets, VR headsets, drones and handheld consoles. Smaller tech prizes usually mean smaller ticket limits, which means better odds per ticket.
Before you enter any tech draw, check:
- Is it new and sealed, with a UK warranty?
- Is the exact model named, not just “latest” or “top spec”?
- Is there a cash alternative, if you’d rather have the money?
How tech competitions work
- Pick a draw. Check the prize, the ticket price, the ticket limit, the closing date and the most tickets one person can buy.
- Answer the entry question and enter. Buy tickets online, or send a free entry by post. Both get the same chance.
- Instant wins (sometimes). Some draws hide smaller prizes, such as AirPods, games or credit, among the ticket numbers. You’ll know straight away if you’ve won one. See our guide to instant wins.
- The draw. When the competition closes, or every ticket sells, one winner is picked at random.
- Delivery. The winner is contacted and the prize is sent out.
Your real odds
Your chance per ticket is 1 divided by the total number of tickets, if every ticket sells. Here’s how ticket limits change your odds:
| Tickets in the draw | Chance with 1 ticket | Chance with 10 tickets |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | 1 in 1,000 | 1 in 100 |
| 4,000 | 1 in 4,000 | 1 in 400 |
| 10,000 | 1 in 10,000 | 1 in 1,000 |
A cheaper ticket isn’t always better value. A 50p ticket in a 20,000-ticket draw gives worse odds per pound than a £1 ticket in a 4,000-ticket draw. Work it out before you choose.
How to enter free by post
Under the Gambling Act 2005, a paid draw decided by chance is a lottery. A genuine free entry route is what makes a tech competition a legal prize draw instead. Every fair UK operator offers one, usually by post, with the same chance as a paid ticket.
To enter free, follow the postal entry steps in the competition’s terms. Include your name, address, contact details, the competition name and your answer to the entry question, and post it in time to arrive before the draw closes.
How to spot a fair tech competition
Check these before you enter any tech draw:
- The exact prize. The model, storage or spec, and whether it’s new and sealed.
- A fixed ticket limit, so you can work out your odds.
- What happens if it doesn’t sell out. Does the draw still go ahead on the date, or does it get extended?
- A clear free entry route. It should be easy to find, not buried in the terms.
- A real company. Look for a registered company name and UK address.
- Published winners, with names or photos where winners agree.
- No big promises. Be wary of claims like “guaranteed win” or “best odds in the UK” unless the numbers back them up.
- Responsible play tools, such as spending limits or account breaks.
And only spend what you’re happy to lose. Most tickets won’t win, so treat it as entertainment, not a way to save on a new phone.

FAQs
Are tech competitions legal in the UK?
Yes, when they offer a free entry route or a genuine skill test. That makes them prize competitions, not lotteries, under the Gambling Act 2005.
Can I win an iPhone or PS5 for free?
Yes. Legal UK prize draws accept free postal entries, with the same chance of winning as a paid ticket.
Are the prizes new?
They should be. A fair competition names the exact model and says whether it’s new and sealed. Our tech prizes are brand new.
What happens if a tech draw doesn’t sell out?
It depends on the operator’s terms. Check the competition page and terms before you enter. Our FAQs explain how our draws work.
Who can enter?
UK residents aged 18 or over.
UK residents 18+ only. Free postal entry is available on every Highland Vault draw. Please play responsibly. Highland Vault is run by TVI Fife Limited, a registered Scottish company.
